Is this a corporate event venue or is it community-owned?
Community-owned.
Meaning not owned by one individual or company, but rather a group of individuals came together to purchase the property.
With the exception of our Project Manager whose primary residence is New York, our board members and investors are mainly Alachua County residents who have organized to save this property from becoming the next housing development.
Is it for profit?
No. It's being organized as a not-for-profit business. Meaning money raised and ticket sale revenue goes directly to the upkeep of property and overhead expenses. Investors will be paid back, and if profits exceed what's needed to operate the park efficiently, the money will be invested back in the local communities closest to the park, supporting education, music, and the arts.
Is this public property and usage up for a vote?
No. This is a private land sale.
However, the new ownership will be creating a space that can be used for both private and public events and welcomes community input. See below.
Did the seller receive offers from other parties interested in purchasing the land?
Yes. All other offers were from housing developers.
Once the seller heard the plan for the music park and how the property was going to be conserved, he whole-heartedly supported the plan and even agreed to seller finance a large portion of the sale.
What's the size and description of the property?
Approximately 270 acres in total. Tree canopies, trails, wide-open fields, a lake...
Once the music park opens, what will the property uses be?
Events featuring live music and dance.
Educational events like beekeeping and gardening.
Wildflower propagating, and possibly a community garden.
Outdoor activities like archery, disc golf, obstacle courses and the like are all being considered.
We will be creating a family-friendly space for all ages to enjoy.
Will the large Live Oaks on the property be saved?
Actually yes, not only will the large Live Oaks be protected, but we already have plans in place to care for them and help them thrive.
The property hasn't been cared for in years, so unfortunately some Live Oaks have recently perished due to invasive plants taking over but our dedicated care team will work to ensure the long lives of these majestic trees.
If you'd like to sponsor the upkeep and care of a Live Oak, contact us today.
Will local vendors and farmers be invited to sell goods at park events?
Yes.

Or attend a Coffee & Conversation session to give input one-on-one in person.
Thank you for answers to some very important questions. If I am understanding correctly, this property would become a housing development if the seller had not appreciated the vision of conservation and an opportunity for community-centered activities. I am also happy to learn that Wildflowers is a non-profit. I sincerely hope Melrose citizens come forward with constructive ideas and thoughtful input. It seems like there is great potential for beauty and pride in our hometown if we work together for the good of all concerned.
